Hi, My name is Angela Hope Goodwin. (Hi aunt Alice). I'm Daughter of Jill (Goodwin) Sorensen and grand daughter to Hope Goodwin. This is an awesome website. I'd never seen it before today, but I'm glad that I found it when I was surfing. It's amazing to see where you really do come from. Let's keep in memory one of the greatest men to have ever lived Cliff Gander. We all miss you and can't wait to see you again! We love you! I'll never find a better fishing partner.

It was so interesting to see a Hagan family in the United States from here in Queensland Australia. My husband is Paul, I am Beth, his father was William, his uncles Tom, James and John. Our sons are Mark and James, ... and so on. The same names seem to crop up in generations of Hagans; perhaps it is because they fit well. Your site was very interesting for us. Our son, Mark now lives in Denver with his family so we feel we have a US connection. Beth Hagan (pchagan@optusnetcom.au)

Alice, Just a quick note to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I, like so many others in the family, have only good memories of the times spent at Aunt Jo and Uncle Cliff's. Whether fishing, playing in the river or just visiting, I always have felt welcome there. If there's anything that Aunt Jo needs, just let us know. My emails are: rbuckman@centurytel.net (home) and rbuckman@buckhornrubber.com (work).

I grew up in Shelby County (next to Monroe County) Missouri, south of Clarence and in Shelbyville. I have seen Joseph Jarboe's Civil War Confederate Cape, which hangs in Paris Missouri's courthouse as part of a museum exhibit, he fought in a battle in Newark Missouri. I have been to a cemetary (the Jarboe-Hamilton-Combs cemetary) on Ralph Spurgeon's farm a few miles north of Lakenan (highway 36 just west of Monroe City) (there is another cemetary across the highway where my direct ancestor Thomas Jarboe is buried from the 1800's) near Monroe City, where early Jarboe's are buried. The cemetary was restored several years ago. Also my third grade teacher in Clarence was a Worland!

I remember Aunt AnnaLou babysitting for us on new years eve,her making room in her car for us to ride, her always singing, her always finding four leaf clovers, her stories about her friend Happy, and getting a card every day with a very large ballon in it when I was in the hospital when I was 5. She always made me fell special. Go sing with the angles. Love Marla

Anna Lou Jones, 100, died, Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004. She died at Tender Nest in Billings, Mont., where she enjoyed the love and care provided for her by the staff. Anna Lou was born in St. Paul, Kan., to James Adelbert (Dell) and Gertrude Lee (Gertie) Bell Jarboe on March 13, 1904. She was one of nine girls born in the home of her mother's parents, John Thosmas and Maria Louise (Saunders) Bell. The family moved to Strain, N.D., in July where her father homesteaded on 160 acres. They then moved to Lakenan, MO., in 1910 where she attended Wright School. Anna Lou graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic High School in Monroe City in 1922. She had been honored as the oldest living graduate. Anna Lou entered the Ursuline Convent around 1926 but left in 1940. She had also worked in an ammunition factory in Iowa during World War II. Anna Lou received a B.S. in education in 1956. Anna Lou was united in marriage to Harry E. Jones on Aug. 2, 1969. Anna Lou then returned with Harry to Bridger, Mont., where they lived and farmed. They moved to Laurel in 1991. Anna Lou's faith was very important to her. Her hobbies included reading and music. She could play the piano quite well. Anna Lou had also traveled extensively in Europe, seeing France, Switzerland and Italy. Anna Lou is proceeded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry E. Jones. She is survived by her sisters, Josephine Gander of Monroe City and Kathleen Montgomery. She is also survived by four step-sons and numerous nieces and nephews. Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings was in charge of arrangements. Services were held Wednesday Aug. 22, 2004 in Bridger at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Aunt Anna Lou, may you now sing with the angels. Submitted by Bridget (Buckman)Potterfield - Anna Lou Jones Obit as appeared in Lake Gazette, Monroe City, MO August 11, 2004

I can't believe that Aunt Anna Lou is gone. When I saw her in March, I would has bet $50 she would live for another ten years. I have so many memories of her. The last memory is when I helped to bed. She said that she was happy that every one came for our birthday. That she love me. She slipped into sleep. She looked so good. She said when I leaned down to kiss her when we arrived. "Who are you?" I replied, "Aunt Anna Lou it's Zoe Ann" she said, "Oh, you look so OLD". God blessed her and everyone who loved her.

Sam Buckman; On memories of Aunt Ann Lou:I remember on time the Steve White I I were riding back from Monroe City to Shelbina in her 1947 Ford Coupe. She was driving along at 90 MPH, singing like a bird and had no idea what speed she was driving. Steve and both Thought, Man what a ride!! I have a lot of memories of her, but this is one that always comes to the top.

After seeing the pictures of Aunt Anna Lou I recalled my favorite memory of her. She always brought us Buckman kids children cheese curls. Even though I didn't like cheese curls, somehow they brought magic coming from Aunt Anna Lou and I was delighted! I also remember she ALWAYS found a four leaf clover every time she looked for one! I would be interested in hearing other Aunt Anna Lou memories. Bridget (Buckman) Potterfield

Hello! I just wanted to say that I found it pretty cool how my boyfriend Andy and I did the exact same road trip you did just last week. We live in Oregon, but are both originally from Iowa and Minnesota. The other odd thing is that his grandfather lives in the Tender Nest facility - Roland Robertson. I just thought it was cool that other people out enjoy the same travel route we do, and probably enjoy the Red Lodge Cafe as much too!

Jenny, the link we are supposed to have to Daniel Boone is that Maria Louise Saunders Bell's great-grandmother was Daniel Boone's sister Elizabeth. So, yes, we would be descended from Daniel Boone's parents, but not Daniel Boone himself.

Beth, Yes you are one of our relatives. Your grandfather was a grandson of John Thomas Jarboe III and Susannah Bell.

A connection has been claimed to Francis Scott Key but I have not independently verified it. It is a VERY DISTANT connection. According to the information, Francis Key was a grandson of a Suzanne Gardiner and Philip Key. Suzanne's sister Elizabeth Gardiner married John Miles and was the mother of Rebecca Miles who married Thomas Hill. Their daughter Dorothy Hill married John Thomas Jarboe I in 1791. So our multi-great-grandmother's sister was Francis Scott Key's grandmother. Probably not close enough to get us invited to the next Key family reunion!

I believe I am one of your 'Jarboe' relatives. My grandfather was Lawrence Jarboe who lived in Clarence, Missouri. My name is Elizabeth Anne Jarboe, born -02/04/57 to Franklin D. and Patricia Alice Jarboe. I lived in Shelby County until I graduated in 1975 at North Shelby High School in Shelbyville, MO. My basic question is this... is there some connection between the Jarboes and Francis Scott Key who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?

I enjoy all of the updated pictures. This web site is wonderful to keep us informed about what is going on in the family. It helps us be more "family" to each other. Thank you Alice for all your effort. I am interested in family member's opinions of What Is A Jarboe. What characteristics or traits do Jarboe's have? I have pondered this question for a long time, and would appreciate some relative's opinions. Meek and sentimental are two traits I see in a lot of Jarboe relatives. Also, I spoke with our Aunt Anna Lou Jones yesterday and she is doing fine and healthy for a woman her age.(She insists that she is 99 years old, but she was born in 1904--I can't convince her that she is 98. But what's a year.) As usual she is lonesome for news from relatives. They have put a piano in the home and she enjoys playing it. If any of you have music on songs that she might remember, please send it to her. It would make her happy. P.O. Box 352, Red Lodge, MT 59068. Also Aunt Anna Lou told me that her mother, my Grandmother, Gertrude Bell Jarboe played the piano by ear, and that her father played the fiddle by ear. I had never heard that before, and am very surprised. Thanks, Kathleen

Dear All of Loren Joseph Hagan's Nieces and Nephews

Loren Joseph Hagan was my brother-in-law. I found your web-site while trying to find some information about about Walter Victor Hagan for my sister, Nita Perry Hagan, widow of Loren Joseph Hagan. I had heard them talk about Orville and Lillian frequently--so I told her about your site. She was so pleased. I hope you do not mind. She wanted some information about Walter Victor for her little grand-daughter. She does not use a computer. I believe that some of you have visited while Loren was alive.

You have a great site and although I do not know many of those that appear in the wonderful photos, they are just terrific. One of the months on the calander discussed the home of Albert and Agnes Kendrick which bordered our farm. I vividly remember the fire that consumed the home and how saddened we were to see the burdened it placed on the Kendrick family. Certainly Agnes Dee and Joseph Kendrick with their large family were hard pressed to support their family and I have a great respect for their fortitude.

In July, the Vernon Wallace family will gather in Steamboat Springs to celebrate the marriage of Shawn Sullivan, my nephew, and the son of Martha Jane Wallace and Neil Sullivan. Fr. Don will preside at the wedding. I hope that we can come up with some family photos that we can provide you and allow you to share in our family joy.

Thanks again Alice for the great effort and skill that you give to those who want to share in your family memories.

While it is all very well and good, even nice to think that one might indeed be connected, related, etc. It is inded the fascination which compells one to write, but curiosity hopes for an answer.

My birth father negleted all parental responsibility and therefore I know nothing of my heritage....if indeed I even have one.

If any of you know of or are related to a Joseph Benedict Jarboe of the Baltimore, Maryland area, PLEASE, contact me.

Thanks...Lisa...Raszuli@aol.com

Hi Alice,

I just noticed my home phone and email weren't in your adddress book. Feel free to add them: (617) 484-6181 and home email "currymn@rcn.com" and work email "niki.curry@bain.com".

Love the new Beechwood photo album. I just visited my great Aunt Winifred Beechwood (93 years old) over President's Day weekend, and I've uploaded a bunch of pictures to my website. Stop by! I also took nearly 100 digital pictures of photos in her photo album and portraits around her apartment, so I've got a bunch of photo editing to do! Happy Washington's Birthday! ;)

Love, Niki

Hi Alice! I am terribly delinquint in my correspondence with you and other distant family members, but I just wanted to say "all's well in Boston". I've got a number of photos I'd like to email you for the Beechwood/Bell photo album. I was wondering, could you make a link to that photo album from the main photo album page? Aunt Alice & I (and cousin Mary Alice Costello) have had to search through the Bell photos to find the link to the Beechwood pictures. Just a thought ... I hope all is well with you and that you received many family updates over the Christmas holidays. We now have a color printer, so I've been busy scanning & printing some old photos for my great Aunt Winifred Beechwood, whom I'll be visiting over the President's Day weekend. She's promised to give me "all the photos I want" so this should be an exciting trip! OH!! One more important note. The family has decided on the burial date for my Grandmother Helen Beechwood's ashes. May 12-14, 2001 (Mother's Day weekend). We're all going to fly out to Coffeyville, KS (via Bartlesville, OK or Kansas City, MO airports) for the burial at Calvary Cemetery. If any of the family wants to come and be part of this occasion, please contact me for more details. All are welcome, as we want it to be a time of rejoicing in the good life that Helen had, not just a time of sadness at her parting. I'll be sending off those photos I promised, so watch your email! Love, Niki

Dear Alice, What a great find! Niki Curry Beechwood sent me to this site.

My great-grandmother was Mary Alice Bell Beechwood, sister of Gertrude Bell, wife of William N. Beechwood, and the person after whom I was named.

My grandfather was Emory Edward Beechwood and my mother was Phyllis Mae Beechwood. I'll be getting back with you with what information I have about the Emory Edward Beechwoods. I'm still browsing your site. Wow! In the meantime, my email address is izzyjoe@hal-pc.org or alicealice@bigfoot.com. Be back with you soon. Mary Alice Costello

Helen Beechwood, widow of John J. Beechwood (who was son of Mary Alice Bell Beechwood), died October 29th. This was due to the pneumonia I previously reported. My mother was 90 years old. We were fortunate that all her children, John - Lois - Barbara - and myself (Mary Alice) were able to be with her. In addition, quite a few adult grandchildren were able be come down to Atlanta. Thanks again for all your support.

I wanted to tell you, Alice, how much your anniversary note meant to me. Tim and I actually barely celebrated on our 16th anniv., it happened to be a very busy weekend for the kids. We'll catch up later, I guress. I would love to hear how everything went with your parents' 63rd anniversary on the same day. You had mentiioned they were visiting...

I hope you are well and happy, you have certainly made so many people happy with this website.

Alice, I just received your 2001 Family Calendar order form (which was quite thoughtful of you!), and I just want to say "kudos to you!" for all the hard work and time and money that goes into such a professional(!) undertaking of this nature. What a wonderful way to share with the whole extended family the photos and important dates of our family and common ancestors.

I sincerely hope that everyone who received the family group sheets will comply with your request to make and changes and updates and send them back to you promptly. No one has a right to grip about an error if they don't make the effort to set the record straight in the first place. :-)

Congratulations--and continued good luck--on the 2001 calendar! All my best, Niki Beechwood Curry

Regarding: Francis Buckman's hair dryer.

Marla (Buckman) Morris has Grandma's hair dryer. I know all of the grand children remember it! As children bathing at Grandma's we got to decide the method used to dry our hair. We could get our hair dried by the nifty hair dryer while Grandma's long gentle fingers ran through our hair. We always knew we were loved by her! Or we could have our hair dried by the fresh air that blew through it while sitting in the swing on the front porch. I can remember it being a difficult decision. . . . anyway . . .

. . . the hair dryer in on display at the Quincy Museum in Quincy, IL from present until mid-November 2000.

Wouldn't Grandma be thrilled.

They said the hair dryer was made in the 1920's and was made from parts of two appliances: a blender and a toaster. It is on display along with other antique appliances.

I'm not sure if Quincy Museum has a web site or not If I find out they do I'll let you know.

Love to all,

Bridget (Buckman) Potterfield

I am sitting in my office, wiping the tears from my eyes, to see the pictures of my far flung cousins and other "relatives" - tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of my dad's death - John Jacob Beechwood Sr. My name is Mary Alice Saundra Beechwood, and I presently live in Englewood, NJ. I am married to Timothy Paul DIngman, and we have two boys named Nicholas Andrew (13) and Alexander Noel (10). I believe I am named after my grandmother, Mary Alice Bell Beechwood. I also see from all the wonderful family photos that the name Saunders is connected to the Beechwoods, which may be why I have the middle name of Saundra while other girls my age were named Sandra. I am one of the two little girls whose picture appears near the end of the file.

Anyway, thank you for all the work you must have done to made this wonderful place to visit. My office email address is mdingman@ecgny.com. My home email is tdingman@worldnet.att.net

I have found that some of the dates I had written down wrong and your site has gotten me straight on them and now I can continue my research. I have a friend in DAR's and she wants me to join. Mama always said we were eligible but I have not been able to figure out how and by what ancestor. Hi Alice Sorry we did not get to see you while you were home last month. Joe graduated this year and we had a party for JOE and TRAVIS and ASHLEY on the same day as the cemetary picnic. We also celebrated Valeries graduation from Moberly Junior College and Aaron and Jacob finished 8th grade.

Joe is working for Buckhorn Rubber Co. in their engeneering dept. for the summer. He has been taking cources in CAD for the last 2 years. He has a goal to become an mechanical engineer in collage. Maybe you can give him some pointers.

Joe just finished with High scool baseball where he earned the ERA title as a pitcher. The college would like him to play for them, but he is concerned that it may take away from his studies. He loves baseball so it is hard for him to say no.

I am going to spare you the details of all of the rest of our family. Like everyone else we are very busy.

Keep up the good work. We all appreciate your efforts very much. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts about Kevin Buckman. My first thoughts are. What a great Dad he was. He and Cindy drove across the state of Washington every other weekend to see son Gus. If you look at the map..that's 500 miles each way. I dread the trip to Missouri and it's usually just once a year. They did it every other weekend. The though of seeing Gus was all they needed. Gus, your Dad and Cindy love you very much and please don't ever forget that. What a great kid Kevin was. He enjoyed life. I still remember when he had the shots that made him grow three inches. He was so proud. He wanted to be as tall as his brothers. He wanted more of them. God needed a smiling flower and he got the best.

With my job and school I've being keeping busy and I'm already looking forward to the end of this semester. This weekend is MU's football homecoming so I'll be going to that game with my friends. I tried to get ahold of Grandma and Grandpa for there anniversay, but was unable to contact them. Quite amazing that a couple can live 62 years together! Aaron and Stacy's wedding was beautiful and, needless to say, the reception was a blast. I will be met in St. Louis by cousins, Anne and Roy, on Friday night, Oct. 1 and then go to Monroe. Looking forward to attending nephew Aaron's wedding on Saturday. Will have a tooth pulled on Monday. Go to Kirksville to see neice Maria Bradshaw on Tuesday. Plan to leave with Dad and Mother on Wednesday for a short trip. Hope to see my grandkids along the way. Joan will take me back to airport on Oct. 10. It will be a busy and quick trip but am grateful for this opportunity to see my folks even though I hate to fly more than anything in this world. He appreciated the informatin from you. I told him he needed to bite the bullet and get on-line, that if my Mom Chris Buckman could do it he could too. He said everyone else had 7 year olds to teach them how to use it, (how true! if you can't figure it out, give it to a kid!) He said he would wait until after Y2K since it was so close!

Anyway, I thought I would pass along that he liked your information.

Alice,

I've finally found a minute to check the names you put with the pictures Roch sent you. It looks like you did a great job matching names with faces!

Not much happening here, our family just returned home from the Palmyra Fair. Two fell asleep on the way home, and one is still trying to tell Dad that she will NEVER ride the Tilt-A-Whirl again!

Karen (Buckwalter) Seward asked me if you had mentioned why she didn't use the pictures you sent her for the class reunion. As I had just talked to you I told her, "as a matter of fact she did ask . . . " She said they created that show on a Mach and your pictures were lost when they transferred it to an IBM. She felt really bad, hadn't even noticed they were gone until that night.

Hope all is well with you.

Not nearly enough people stop to spend a minute and just say hello. But you all look to see if someone else did! Don't be shy!

Our family reunion and safari was great fun. Notice that Joan sent people pictures and none of the wild animals. We in fact had a close encounter of the nasty kind with a huge male lion that charged at Joe and were also charged by elephants. It made the safari more memorable but I could have done without that kind of excitement. Spent this weekend making videos and putting pictures into albums. It was wonderful to share quality time with everyone.

Juliana went fishing with her brother, Joe, this weekend on a river boat in Eastern Ghana and she caught a 70 pound tuna fish. She was so excited with her beginner's luck! Joe caught a 35 pound beracuda. The fresh tuna looks similar to beef and tastes different from the canned product..

Hi Alice, When I was home over Father's Day, I went thru some old photo albums and found one with Jeanne Buckman, Kevin and Mandi. It's a cute lake picture with Jeanne sitting in an inner tube and Mandi and Kevin are on each side of her. It's a great picture - one that shows off Kevin's wonderful smile (as Bridget pointed out). I'll ask Mom to look for it. Your website is wonderful. I've had so much fun looking at everything. Some of these pictures you put in here of the two of us just crack me up. What a couple of hooligans we were!! Glad I finally scratched and clawed my way into the computer age!! Take care.

I agree with Jane, if anyone has some pictures of Kevin Buckman I'd like to have a copy to share here. I've been all through my albums and the closest I can come is the picture of Kim and me playing the piano in 1957 in the Cousin Fun album.

Guyla Christine (Buckman) and Gene Behring are the proud parents of their 2nd child, named Laura Ashley. She joins sister Marti Christine who is two years old. Guyla's address is 810 Hwy C, Monroe City, MO 63456.

Many thoughts and prayers are going out to Kevin Buckman and his family. My fondest memory of Kevin as a kid is his great "smile".

Great site Alice!! Lots of work is going into it to make it so. Glad to have a place to keep up with everyone. Had to laugh out loud at what Bridget wrote about she, Mandy and Patti. Good thing we're all made all different. By the way, one of those freshly plucked chickens sure would taste GOOD.

I don't want the family to strain their brain trying to figure out how we are related to the Bill Williams who signed the guest book below. Bill Williams is the father of my best friend from the University of Texas at Austin, Kim Williams. You can see a picture of Kim and me in my photo album. Kim is an architect who lives in Italy. Kim's parents, Bill and Frances Williams, live in Houston, Texas.

Alice, Kim sent me your web address, and I looked at your page. It is excellent and you have done a beau tiful job of layout and design. Sorry I didn't see your own picture tho! Great to do this for your family. We were supposed to visit Kim this week, but Frances came down with the "what's going around" and was really not in shape for the trip, and the weather in Italy was lousy.

Good luck, and have a great day. Bill

Love the new graphics and photo album organization. Joe and I are in the process of "making memories" with our oldest two granddaughters, Angie and Jennifer. We plan to take them on a safari in East Africa in July (Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa). Have purchased a new digital movie camera from which photos can be produced. We are really excited about this trip and we will be joined by three daughters and a friend. The best thing about living abroad is sharing adventures with family. Stay tuned for safari photos in July.

There are a couple of pictures of Star in here. One is in the Cousin Fun photo album showing me with the Hightower kids. Another one is in the Cliff Gander photo album showing me with Don's kids. In putting the photo albums together I concluded that no one in the family owns a pair of shoes until they are in high school.

P.S.

I loved the "chicken" picture of Mandy, Patti and I. That Mandy is a real tom-boy compared to Patti and I, who she often called "sissy"!
