The Great Life of Cliff and Jo Gander
Cliff Gander and Josephine Jarboe met at a barn dance
November 12, 1932 when they were sixteen years old. Cliff asked
Josephine out for a date the next day and claims to have decided he would marry her on
that first date November 13, 1932. They dated for the next five
years and finally married October 13, 1937. They would have married
on the fifth anniversary of their first date November 13 but Cliff didn't want his wedding
anniversary to always fall during deer season! The number thirteen is a magical
number for Cliff and Josephine (or Jo as she is commonly known). They have
celebrated their wedding anniversary with a trip every October 13th for the more than
sixty years since they married. They go out to dinner almost every month on the 13th
and consider it lucky to get a hotel room or an airplane seat with the number 13 in it.
In 1973, Cliff bought Jo a car on the anniversary of their 13,000th day of
marriage!
Cliff and Jo have four children, 17 Grandchildren and an ever growing number of
Great-Grandchildren:
